A long, narrow slice of Muonionalusta — 63 mm end to end, 10 mm across, 3.5 mm thick, 18.9 g. The longest piece in the collection. A cut this narrow crosses the crystal lattice at a steep angle, so the structure arrives as a series of diagonal bars running the length of the piece rather than a spread field.

Why the pattern matters

Of the three meteorite families — iron, stony, stony-iron — this is iron: an iron-nickel alloy in elemental form. Identification comes down to the internal crystal arrangement, which grew at roughly one degree of cooling per million years in microgravity and cannot be manufactured. Etching with nitric acid is the only way to bring it out of the metal.

At 18.9 g this has real weight for a pendant, and the length gives it a definite vertical line. Turn it and the bars catch light in sequence — the flash travels down the piece.
