Material note
Iron meteorites are elemental iron-nickel. The lattice of interlocking crystals inside them is the identifying feature and the reason the surface behaves the way it does — it is etched into relief with acid, and it exists because the metal cooled at something like a degree per million years in space. No laboratory has replicated it.
