A near-square slice of Muonionalusta — 41 × 36 mm, 3.6 mm thick, 9.5 g. Almost equal on both axes, which is the most generous shape you can cut from this material: the lattice reads as a full two-dimensional field, with the interlocking geometry visible in every direction rather than sectioned into strips.
Iron meteorites are elemental iron-nickel, and the criss-crossing crystal structure inside them is what identifies them. It formed on a timescale nothing terrestrial matches — on the order of a million years per degree of cooling, in space — and stays hidden until acid etching exposes it. No simulation has reproduced it.
