An arrow in nickel-plated Muonionalusta — 10.4 g, 31.9 × 18.1 mm, 4.2 mm thick. A directional shape on a material whose internal structure has its own fixed directions; the etched crystal bands cross the shaft at whatever angle the section happened to take, indifferent to the outline.
An iron meteorite — essentially elemental iron-nickel. The interlocking crystal lattice inside it is the standard identifying feature and appears only after acid etching. It formed over an extraordinarily slow cooling in space and has never been reproduced in a laboratory.
